Experience the magic of the holidays with Northern Connections! This season, we are thrilled to take part in two special North Shore holiday traditions where you can hand-select your fresh-cut trees, wreaths, and greenery in person.

The Christmas Tree Train Excursion

9:00 am – 1:00 pm


Begin a family holiday tradition with this unique excursion from the North Shore Scenic Railroad. Travel up the scenic North Shore from the Duluth Train Depot to the charming village of Knife River, where fresh-cut North Shore Christmas trees and wreaths from Northern Connections await you!


How It Works:

  • 9:00 am: Depart the Duluth Depot in warm, comfortable coaches (or upgrade to ride in the Dome Car for $15 more).


  • 10:30 am: Arrive at the newly restored Knife River Depot. Step off the train to enjoy live music, festive holiday cheer, and hot food available for purchase inside the depot (featuring delicious soups and sandwiches from Larsmont Trading Post).


  • Pick Your Tree: Browse our tree lot, pick out your favorite tree or wreath, and take in the festive atmosphere.


  • The Return Trip: Around 11:30 am, board the warm train while our team bales your tree and loads it onto a flatcar right on the train.


  • 1:00 pm: Return to the Duluth Depot. Use your special "luggage tag" style ticket to easily claim your tree. Drive your car right up to the side of the train, and our handy helpers will load your tree directly onto your roof for you to take home! Afterward, feel free to step into the Lake Superior Railroad Museum to enjoy the holiday decorations.


Ticket & Purchase Information:

  • Coach Seating: $40 for adults, $30 for kids (plus processing fees).


  • Dome Car Upgrade: $15 more.


Trees & Wreaths: Sold individually alongside your tickets (you must purchase at least one item). You can also upgrade or purchase additional trees and wreaths in person when you arrive at Knife River.

Julebyen 2026: Scandinavian Nordic Christmas Village Festival

Dates: December 5–6, 2026

Times:

  • Saturday, December 5: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
  • Sunday, December 6: 10:00 am – 3:00 pm
  • Location: Knife River, MN


Step into the magic of a Nordic Christmas at Julebyen 2026, a one-of-a-kind festival celebrating Scandinavian traditions, culture, and holiday spirit!

We will have a dedicated booth set up to sell all our fresh products. Come browse and pick out your trees, wreaths, and holiday goodies in person—with proceeds helping to raise money for the local park. (Be sure to look for Jon in his red and black cap, who is proudly associated with Julebyen!)
